Southeast Asia Regional Forum on Transshipment Controls

Representatives from government and industry met in Bangkok, Thailand, December 11-13, 2002, to attend the Regional Forum on Transshipment Controls, co-hosted by the United States Government and the Royal Thai Government. The Forum focused on how governments and industry can work together to protect international security and improve the security of international trade by increasing their knowledge of what cargo is transshipped through major ports and by strengthening legal controls and enforcement capabilities. Participants at the Forum concluded that improved transshipment controls and effective risk management techniques can focus enforcement efforts on the small fraction of trade that raises concern, while providing greater confidence and quicker clearance for the vast majority of legitimate trade.
