U.S. - Morocco International Transshipment Conference

The 2008 U.S.-Morocco International Transshipment Conference will be held in Tangier, Morocco from May 20th - 22nd. The focus of this year’s conference will be on transshipment ports, and on the challenges, roles and responsibilities of Governments in stemming the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, their delivery systems, as well as conventional weapons through large transshipment ports. The conference will bring together delegates from 20 countries from the Middle East and Southeast Asia, as well as representatives from the United States, Australia and the European Union. The conference is hosted by the Office of Export Control Cooperation, Bureau of International Security and Non-proliferation of the U.S. Department of State (ISN/ECC) which oversees the U.S. Government’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program. Delegates will discuss the challenges of communicating among frontline organizations, exchanging information, engaging the private sector, risk management, strategies for coordinating incident response, and the need to balance trade security and trade facilitation. On May 22nd, delegates will visit the new Port of Tangier Med which opened to traffic in June 2006.
